Our priority must be the education of all of our students. We need to bring kids back into the classroom where they can receive an education and develop socially and emotionally. Parents cannot watch and teach their kids while also trying to work to feed their families.
We must focus on the physical, social, and mental health of our kids. Our kids are suffering. Depression, anxiety, failing classes, dropping out of school, suicide, and child abuse all abound. Teachers cannot teach effectively or develop a true relationship with kids through a computer screen.
The classroom must be a place to seek truth not an agenda. We must remove the 1619 Project with its biased and false view of United States history and replace it with the truth--the good, the bad, and the ugly.
We must strive to obtain the best outcomes for the money spent. Simply spending more money doesn't guarantee better outcomes for our kids. In fact BSD falls only 4th in spending per student among the 44 districts in Delaware and yet falls below the average for the state on Smarter Balance test scores for both math and ELA.
Less federal and state level involvement in the local district. Remove the Common Core standards and Smarter Balanced testing which takes days away from teaching and learning and does not accurately predict "college readiness".
I write about spiritual, relational, mental health, and political issues related to the family and can bring that knowledge to bear within the school board.
As a mother of 2 BSD students, I will focus on the needs of children and their families and on empowering them to achieve their goals.
We should look without bias at our purposes and goals, and honestly evaluate our success in achieving them.
